Suburban house with a manicured lawn framed by shade trees

Wendell is two towns at once. There’s the historic side around the old downtown, with mature trees and yards that have been there for generations, and there’s everything that’s gone up since Wendell Falls started filling in. The landscaping problems on those two sides of town have almost nothing in common.

Capstone Landscapes serves Wendell from Rolesville. Rick Linder has been in the landscaping business more than 25 years. Call or text (919) 671-7296 for a free estimate.

What we do in Wendell

Old town, new town

The older parts of Wendell come with big established trees, and that means shade, root competition, and a serious leaf drop every fall. Tall fescue is the grass that works there, and it needs overseeding every September because it won’t fill its own bare spots. Getting the leaves off before they mat down matters more on these lots than almost anything else you do.

The newer neighborhoods have the opposite situation. Full sun, few mature trees, and lawns sitting on ground that got compacted during construction. Those yards struggle with heat and hard soil rather than shade. Aeration matters a lot, drainage is often an issue, and warm-season grasses become a real option on a full-sun lot.

Both sides sit on the same red Piedmont clay, and both benefit from a soil test before anyone spends money on fertilizer. It’s inexpensive and it takes the guesswork out.

One practical note: Wendell doesn’t run the kind of municipal loose-leaf pickup that Raleigh does, so leaves are yours to deal with. Worth knowing before November if you moved here from inside the city.
